Multi-Factor Authentication Phone Change

Overview

When you change your phone number, you have to update your account to send MFA codes to the new phone number. If you still have your old phone with the old number, you can manually change your MFA code destination. If you don't have access to your old phone, you can request an MFA reset to have ITS change the destination of your MFA codes for you.

Environment

Anyone who's changed their phone number and receives MFA codes over text messages.

Details

The self-service update button will take you to the security info page of your Etown account. Here you can change which phone number receives MFA codes. This option only works if you have access to your old phone number. Trying to access this page will require multi-factor authentication. To do a self-service change, click the Self-Service Update button at the top right.

Requesting a manual change will create a ticket informing ITS staff that your MFA number needs changed. You will be contacted when your MFA number is ready to be changed. To request an MFA number change, click the Request Manual Change button at the top right.

Additional Information

When requesting an MFA number change, have the last four digits of your social security number and your college ID ready. These pieces of information are needed to verify your identity. You will not need to input this information in the request form; however, it will be asked when we contact you.
